D&AD Awards Winners Announced: Tectonic shifts in Typography, Writing for Design and Writing for Advertising as digital and mobile media emerges
The D&AD Award winners were announced last night in a ceremony at London’s IMAX cinema after the final day of judging, unusually splitting the yellow and black pencils. The Black pencils are due to be announced at a the main awards event in September, where D&AD will celebrate their 50th birthday, looking back over the past five decades, where they will present the Black Pencils, and honouring the Yellow Pencil winners.
There was some really impressive work, a lot hugely deserving, but a tough year from the judges. In total there were 66 Yellow Pencils awarded to the best of the world’s design, advertising and communications work at the 2012 Awards.
The judges commented about the shifts at play as talents appear to have moved away from Typography & Writing, attracted by the emergent media in digital and mobile, where the awards had a strong year.
